In October 2000 the Riecke’s lost their son, Stephen Daniel, to a second trimester miscarriage. Since that time they have had the honor of walking alongside hundreds of other loss parents, families, and the professionals that serve them.
Kristen and Patrick Riecke, the co-authors of "No Matter How Small: Understanding Miscarriage and Stillbirth," bring a wealth of experience and compassion to their work. In 2015, Kristen began working in local hospitals, where she established grief support groups, annual events to support healthy grieving, and a volunteer program aimed at providing immediate in-patient support to parents experiencing stillbirth. Since 2013 Patrick, a seasoned expert in the field, led a team of professionals that responded to a staggering 15,000 inpatient deaths, including a significant number of miscarriages, stillbirths, and infant losses. Today, Patrick is a speaker, author, and consultant on grief, medical ethics, and workplace burnout. He is also an adjunct professor at Indiana University for the School of Healthcare Sciences.
